The word "social media" is, in many procedures, a deceptive form of shorthand. The technology itself is not inherently social in the way that term might be understood. To some degree, it is a device or a medium by which people may communicate with each other without necessarily being present. It is also commonly an individual medium, as broadcast television or radio are one-to-one mediums, while the phone is an individual medium. The usage of the term "social media" is based on progress with some influence by marketers who find it beneficial in various areas such as business, public marketplaces, and governmental arenas. Currently, the term remains the most accurate for the purpose of discussion within work processes.
