Corruption has a negative impact on economic growth, with real per capita GDP decreasing by around 17% when the reversed CPI (Corruption Perceptions Index) increased by one standard deviation. This effect is more pronounced in autocracies and affects growth by decreasing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and increasing inflation.
