The Spanish education system is compulsory and free for all children aged between 6 and 16 years. It is supported by the national government together with the governments of each of the country’s 17 autonomous communities. The system consists of four levels: pre-school (3 to 6 years, non-compulsory), primary education (6 to 12 years, compulsory), secondary education (12 to 16 years, compulsory), and post-compulsory schooling (Bachillerato, 16 to 18 years, non-compulsory).
