The ancient Olympic Games were first mentioned in 776 B.C. and were established by Heracles to be held every four years. The modern Olympic Games were revived in the 19th century by Pierre de Coubertin and were first held in Greece in 1896. Since then, the Games have been held every four years with athletes from various countries participating in different competitions.
